Planning a toddler party takes so much careful planning, from decorations, theme, food and presents to sending out invitations, and choosing the right entertainment. When choosing entertainment for toddlers good thought needs going into the type of activities they will enjoy and understand.

Young children are in their nature explorers, they are observing all the different things around them and exploring their senses, sight, smell, touch etc. when entertaining toddlers it is important to offer a variety of games and entertainment that helps them explore their senses whilst learning and developing.

Music is a great choice, children love dancing and singing along to songs, nursery rhymes are a big hit as some of the children will have learned some songs already at nursery, sing along to the “wheels on the bus” keeping the children entertained and engaged with the actions, parents could hold their younger babies in their laps and sit in a circle whilst you sing. You could also play musical games such as “ring a round the Rosie”, and “musical bumps”, where children dance and move to the music until the music stops and they all have to sit down.

Blow Bubbles! Most children are fascinated with bubbles and love chasing and catching them, get the children to catch the bubbles on their hands and count how many they have, try to count them before they “pop!”

Ball pits and soft play, is a way of young children to experiment with their movements whilst being safe and having a ball of a time, soft play comes in many different sizes and shapes .

Story telling is another option for toddlers parties, choose short stories as they wont want to sit their for too long, and be sure to animate your story telling with expressions, voices and hand movements, get the children to say catch phrases after you like “fi fi fo fum” anything that is repeated frequently in the story you are telling.

Keep in mind that children’s attention spans vary and be prepared to move on from some planned activities sooner than anticipated.

Childrens Entertainer CRB/ DBS Check

CRB checks are now known as DBS checks, these are becoming more difficult for an independent children’s entertainer to obtain, these checks are normally awarded to companies that employ people to look after the vulnerable on their own ie children or the elderly and these companies need to do at least 1000 checks a year.

In the eyes of the government a children’s entertainer is not suppose to be left alone totally with children, and entertainment companies don’t really hire 1000 entertainers in one year so how do we get that piece of paper to assure moms and dads that their little ones are not at risk when hiring a children’s entertainer.

There are now umbrella bodies, which are companies who maybe don’t have enough people to CRB check a year so they fill the quota by accepting companies like children entertainment companies and does the CRB/DBS check on their behalf.  Even these companies are now becoming extinct as the company that I originally use to use does not do it anymore because the company did not fill the quota of 1000 a year.

The children’s entertainment business is a growing business and parents rely on these companies to support them in planning and executing a successful birthday party or even entertain children at weddings, communions and all events involving children so why is having a CRB such a difficult process for children’s entertainers to apply for!

Children’s Entertainment companies such as Hooray Entertainment have worked with CRB/DBS umbrella bodies for 5years and luckily all of their entertainers are CRB checked and all paper work is up to date, I just hope that we can find an easier way of getting these checks done so Parents can be secure and confident when hiring a children’s entertainer.

Birthday Party Themes

It is easier to plan a birthday party theme for your little one when they are into princess’s or super hero’s and Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse or Tinkerbelle, but when they get to that age where they are slowly growing out of that style of party and they want to have a party what do you do!

Well I spoke to a mom this morning at the Marriot Hotel in Swiss Cottage where Hooray Entertainment provides a balloon modeling service for children there at the hotel she took her 11 year old daughter with 8 of her friends to celebrate her birthday, they took advantage of the luxury surrounding had a little disco in their hotel room, went out in London and had a great time, came back to the hotel for dinner with kiddy champagne and after wearing themselves out they went to sleep! Now not everyone can afford the Marriot but there are other ideas that would be great for that in-between stage.

Being a childrens entertainer and entertaining children is not a task that any and anyone can do, as children prove to be a tougher audience than adults, this is because unlike grown ups, they have not yet learnt to nod, grin, and bear it and we don’t believe they should!
